Your Klout score defines how you interact with your social media community…did you know this?

First off, for those of you who do not know what Klout is or what it represents, let’s explore the definition of Klout…

According to, Klout measures influence online using data from your social networks. Anywhere you have an online presence, you have the opportunity to influence people by creating or sharing content that inspires actions such as likes, retweets, comments and more. The more engagement your posts receive, the more influential you are. Klout uses this information to provide you a Klout Score that measures your overall influence.

Now that you know what Klout means, what does the Klout score do for you? Let me explain.

Your Klout score measures your online influence on a scale of 1 – 100. Obviously, the higher your Klout score, the more influence you have on your network or community. Your influence is measured using the following social media platforms:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn
  • Foursquare
  • Klout (+K received)
  • Wikipedia

Like any social media community you react on, your influence drives an action on someone else’s part. It’s not the large number of social media platforms you post on and just leave content, but it’s the value of the content that influences others to react. It’s much like your expertise in your field that influences others and that’s how you create your following, thereby increasing your Klout score. To me, it’s like being famous. You can drive others to follow you as you influence them, but that can turn into something ugly if you are influencing them in a bad way. Not every famous person is liked by all.

So why should you really care about your Klout score?

As it pertains to marketing your business, the more influence you have on your social media community, the more trust they have in your business and your expertise. Bottom line is your Klout score will drive more traffic to your website or blog and potentially convert visitors to clients. It’s yet another way to market your business and increase your income!

I just checked my Klout score this morning and currently I’m at the following…
